Grindelwald – New Year’s Eve in the Swiss Alps

Since we were stuck in Switzerland due to the Corona restrictions and were therefore not allowed to celebrate Christmas with our families, we decided spontaneously that we needed a change of scenery on New Year’s Eve. Fortunately, the hotel industry in Switzerland was open, a hotel in the Swiss mountains was quickly found. Nothing stood in the way of a short vacation including delicious food and snow hiking with Kayla 😊

At the Sunstar Hotel Grindelwald we had an absolutely delicious New Year’s Eve menu.

However, a video says more than many words … Enjoy watching 😊

Our personal opinion about Grindelwald:

  • Paradise for summer and winter sports enthusiasts
  • fantastic mountain panorama
  • Swiss prices, very expensive

You can get a very good overview of the region on the following pages:

Best travel time:

Grindelwald is an interesting travel destination all year round, but if possible you should avoid the holiday season. We recommend the months of June to September for summer sports enthusiasts. The average temperature in summer is only 15 degrees. Winter sports enthusiasts get their money’s worth in the months of December to April.

More tips & recommendations:

An absolute MUST is Grindelwald – FIRST – Top of Adventure:

Already in the gondola you can enjoy a fantastic view of Grindelwald and the mountain range. When you arrive at the FIRST mountain station, you have a wide range of options. The most famous activities are the First Cliff Walk, the First Glider and the hike to the Bachalpsee and in winter of course skiing and sledging.

We can also recommend the drive up to MĂ€nnlichen including the Royal Walk:

From MÀnnlichen mountain station, the Royal Walk leads up to the summit (approx. 30 minutes walk). Here you have a breathtaking panoramic view of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, the Breithorn, Lake Thun and the Wetterhorn.

From MĂ€nnlichen mountain station a hiking trail (approx. 5 km) leads to Kleine Scheidegg (walking time approx. 1.5 hours in summer, approx. 2.5 hours in winter). You can easily get back to Grindelwald by train.
